Junk Food Advertising on TV

One in five children in Queensland aged between five and 17 are overweight or obese – and this figure just keeps growing. Overweight children are 78 per cent more likely to become overweight adults. And that means this generation of children is likely be the first to die younger than their parents – a very sobering thought.

Parents, of course, have the most influence over what their children eat. But we all recognise the power of television advertising, particularly on our children.

The Queensland Government wants to hear your views about restricting television advertising to children to support families to make healthier choices. Please read the discussion paper Have your say: junk food advertising on children’s television and have your say by completing the online survey at the Queensland Government "Get Involved" site by 31 October 2008.

You can also have your say in the poll on the front page of our website at: www.pandf.org.au
