QLD Election 2017-Priorities in Catholic Education

Written by

Education always features strongly in political campaigns because it represents the second biggest budget item for a state government after health.   The election campaign provides an important opportunity for us to advocate for Catholic schools, with particular focus on the strategic priorities previously endorsed by the Commission.  As the recent Federal funding issues have highlighted, nothing can be taken for granted in the current political climate particularly given the thin margins in the State Parliament and re-emergence of minor parties.

In the lead up to the election announcement, Lee-Anne Perry (for QCEC) and Carmel Nash (for the P&F Federation) have been conducting meetings with MPs to discuss the specific needs of our sector personally. This has included meetings with the current Education Minister, the Shadow Minister and Opposition Leader, as well as many other MPs  These meetings have been productive and positive to date.
